Crowdfunding Spotlight: Tikki Trolls Tribe Miniatures Mortal Arrow Kickstarter

15 Jun

I just have to point you to these unique troll miniatures from Mortal Marrow Miniatures. Given a Tiki theme to differate them from the normal trollish miniature offerings that are out there, a full tribe, if not a full war horde of these can be put together with all the individual options available here.

I am an avid troll mini collector (and I’ve covered other articles with a troll theme before like Big Bastards, and my two headed Troll sculpt and so on, if you’re interested!) and if I had spare funds going, I certainly would be backing this one. They are extremely old school, while still being different enough to be unique to stand on their own. What I like about the indie mini industry is that even so we see the same tropes used, again and again, the interpretation of the themes are sometimes totally different and ends up for making some really special models.

This monstrous pedipalp here from the project is a great figure, and shows the free thinking of Mortal Arrow with their regard to creating. I’d also suggest that you check out Mortal Arrow’s website too (http://www.mortalarrow.com/) and see some their other stuff and background fluff to go with their ranges, which is a jolly good read!

Go and find out more from either the link below to visit the KS project page, or like I said above, check their website and see what you think! There’s plenty of time to decide if you want to become a backer, but make no mistake, the project is funded so they’ll be going into production for those wanting their own Tiki Trolls! Well done guys!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: Pantheon of Chaos (Chapter 2), 28mm Old Skool Chaos Miniatures

15 Jun

Ok, my apologies for missing yesterday’s post in this “post a day” month, but things were out of my control. I’ll make up for that today with two posts, the first being this really great looking retro “Realm of Chaos” inspired KS.

For those of you old enough to remember GW’s old “Realm of Chaos” stuff from the 80’s & early 90’s, these are very much of their ilk, a perfect throwback to the glory days of all things Oldhammer.

There are some cracking miniatures up for grabs here in this campaign, the picture above just shows a small selection of what’s available, so you’ll need to check out the project page for details of more chaos loveliness they are offering! What I really like is that the style is spot on, and apes the presentation style from things like the old White Dwarf ads and publications of that era.

Get over to the page and check this project out, seriously! There are some beautiful stuff here, and if you are serious about a chaos army for your own games, there will be lots here to tempt you into owning some of these fantastic minis!!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: 28mm Renaissance Skeleton Army Miniatures Kickstarter

6 Jun

It might not surprise you that, here at the Grinning Skull, we like all things skeletal. So, it would be rude to not include these babies here in Crowdfunding Spotlight.

These figures are brought to you by Skull & Crown, a name that’s apt considering the subject! As you can see the inspired skeleton designs, lifted as if from the pages of the old woodcuts, paintings and engravings from the renaissance period. Also there is a distinct old skool vibe to them too, most definite thumbs up for both points!

These actually tempt me to get out my paints and minis  right now and do a bit of painting (although I always seem to have 10,000 things to do before I could even consider doing so…) taking out all my available skelly minis to get painted like I promised myself weeks ago…

You can get involved and check the figures out in more detail by clicking on the pictures or this clickky here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/23535743/renaissance-skeleton-army-28mm-miniatures-for-game?ref=category

Keep your eye out for these guys in the future!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: 28mm Alpine Gnomes from Old School Miniatures on Kickstarter

5 Jun

So, it’s been ages since I’ve posted a Crowdfunding Spotlight article here, so without further a do, I want to draw your attention to these interesting little fellers.

Old School Miniatures have a campaign running for these 28mm Alpine Gnomes, which I have to say, have a distinctly Oldhammer feel like some thing from 2nd/3rd Ed Warhammer. Even the pic below is like an old White Dwarf advert for Citadel, which is why I was attracted to the project in the first place.

As you can see, it’s mostly for file and rank gnome troopers, ideal for those who ever wanted to field an entirely gnomish army then this is up your alley! As far as I remember, there were always a shortage of such minis if you ever wanted Gnomes, just a scattering of character types really,  which was fine if you wanted them for a character, but not great for wargaming, so these could be for you if you are gnomishly inclined.

Check out the Kickstarter page and pledge while you have chance, there’s a week left and it’s funded, so you will get your gnomies if you chip in.

Crowdfunding Spotlight: Star Hat Miniatures: Heroic Scale Metal Figures Kickstarter

11 Aug

Well, how could I not feature this KS, given that the tagline for these minis is “Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom!” it’s pretty much right up my alley! Star Hat miniatures are a company I haven’t come across before, but they have my attention now!

As you will gather, these are a set of generic adventurer types typical for dungeon exploration as per the usual RPG/wargaming fantasy fare. There is an old skool feeling to these, very similar to some ancient citadel sculpts and a few other older UK miniature firms work, which is a good thing, although some purists might disagree.

I like them, that’s for sure, and there are more than enough options for classes that’d fit many an RPG group needing some miniatures to fit their party for some dungeon bashing tomfoolery!

I feel that the only criticism I can aim at Star Hat Miniatures, is that the “Dungeons of Doom” moniker is used, and i should be at least getting a free set of them to pay for the favorable review and the royalty bonus for using that in the set title! But joking aside, they look fine to me and (hint, hint!) If you ever want me to review a set in person on here, please do!!!

No doubt this KS will be fully funded, as it’s already almost there, but do your bit and check them out if old skool D&D type figures is your thing. Check out the link to visit the project KS page for more info:
