Crowdfunding Spotlight: Sexy Orcs Kickstarter by Ekmel Sword

20 Oct

WTF!? Exactly! I thought I’d kick off this post with these surreal and barmy miniatures from Ekmel Sword Miniatures from over on Kickstarter. Crazy is not the word for these sets of what are termed”sexy” 28mm Orcs on offer here, but hey, you know me, I love those crackpot mini ideas!

As you can see, these suave greenskins are quite dapper and Ekmel go further into the sexy aspect, even including a stripper orc and cosplay TMNT orcs (How that is sexy, I don’t know) As weird as they are, I can still see that these would be useful in some respects for civilians if you have an orc/ork collection. Some of the above would be quite good as bodyguards, advisors and the like (especially if you need some “Imperialised” Orks for your Blood Axe mob)

Bad points; They are quite basic and a bit naive in the sculpt, but not without charm, almost reminding me of the recent Cowboy Orcs KS and another project I can’t recall the name of from a few years back (which was a hand sculpted board game featuring lots of orcs, the name slips my mind, Chronobound or something…) The detail seems limited and most of which seems to be obtained by painting.

Good points; They have bags of character and are fun. Best of all they are weird (which is good) After all, if you need an orc stripper to go around your battlefield to T-bag the fallen foes!!

On another note, if the good folks at Ekmel are reading this, I’d suggest that the next set you create would be the females (not anime-esque versions, more like drag orcs or Monty Python inspired if you get me) They would compliment this first set and add more Orc civvies to what you can get.

Anyway, check them out over on the KS project page if you want to learn more or get some sexytime for your mob!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: Miniaturemen’s Cowboy Orc Kickstarter

8 Aug

I haven’t posted any crowdfunding spotlight articles recently, so when I saw these little beauties, I just had to post one.

These wild west style orcs will appeal to anyone who loves greenskins, and if I were playing 40K with an ork army (shame they aren’t in 15mm or I’d be aquiring  some), I’d be wanting a unit of them. They have a decent old skool vibe, and they look the business!

My thinking there will be a myriad of uses for them. They’d make a unique Necromunda gang, or simply for gorkamorka (lots have mentioned it already) I think I’d just like them for the sake of having them, they look so quirky!

So get over to KS to show your support of indie miniature producers and manufacturers, by clicking the link and spreading the word.

Grinning Skull Miniatures release: Oggum Oggra

13 May

Just a post to tell you we have another Alternative Armies release this week, the mighty Oggum Oggra GRN34 (otherwise known as a Pig Ogre). Ideal if you want some porky goodness to your miniature collection, or add to your Grinning Skull collection.

These supersized oggum add some leverage to Og forces of all types, and indeed for many other uses. Don’t believe me? Just read the fluff!!

An Oggra is the biggest and meanest strain of the Oggum. Strong and dangerous, ideally suited to battle or hard labour, but low on IQ, which is generally exploited by their smaller cousins.

On the homeworld, oggum scientists have learned to stimulate the Y chromosome in growing ogglets, using a chemical comound known as “treatment Y”, originating in the dark and secret labs of the Von Ok line in Okva. The Von Ok’s are allied to the League of Anthracks, and supply the Leagues troops with the main bulk of elite soldiers, chukk and warbeasts, who are direct results of their cruel and twisted experiments. Oggra created there are subjected to the usual mind control techniques and conditioning, before being shipped out to bolster League forces around the globe.
To combat these abominations, the Og Imperialists have used a refined version of the treatment on conscripted oggum adolescents (with varying results) so, it is not uncommon to find these creatures in the employ of the empire too.
Oggra can occur naturally, starting as any normal ogglet, only to swell to big proportions in a short time. These Oggra are rare, which is a good thing really, given the amount of precious resources they take up and consume each day, many settlements may struggle to support such a brute. Sometimes their births are seen as a curse, and are thrown out and left to fend for themselves. These Oggra can turn savage and prove to be problematic to local warlords if they reside near the warlords territory.
While they won’t win any medals for their intelligence, the make up for in battle and intimidation, and are a rare prize to any would be warlord for his retinue.

Keep a look out for more Grinning Skull releases soon, and if you want to get hold of an Oggra for yourself, get on over to our friends at Alternative Armies to order!

grn02_300dpi

As I mentioned, the Kize are just the first of this monhs new grinning Skull releases, watch out for the fearsome chukk warriors, psychotic mutant chickens created by the mad Okvan scientists of the League of anthracks with their mysterious chemical X compound. The Chukk will be followed with the terrible giant Clukkatrix, a huge mutant chukk with traits of ancient saurian DNA. The Baahl also get a set of auxillary trooops, these critters aren’t “sheepish” when it comes to battle, and serve any side willing to pay their wages!

I haven’t left out the oggum with this set, introducing the the mighty Oggborg, war torn battle veterans, now cyber enchanced and ready for war! Also, the Oggra, super big and super strong Oggum, not great with smarts, but great in a rumble! In this set of releases you’ll see the start of the Zarglian Invasion, tentacles and squishy brains, saucers and rayguns.

Keep posted for a bit of info on the kize in the Carnage continuum background and how it links to the world of Omega Gamma.

So, you have no reason not to start creating your own Kize invasion for your own gaming, so get on over to our friends at Alternative Armies to get hold of the kize delta squad or any other Grinning Skull release so far!
