4xD: Question?: To video, or not to video?

I’ve given this some time to think over. While I sit here writing the next Dungeons of doom article (Honestly, it’ll be coming in the next day or so!) Anyway, I digress, and I’ll get on with my point.

Up till now, I’ve been armed with this blog, my camera and my dry (and often shit) wit. However, this Chrimbo I got a decent enough video cam.

I reckoned it may have been time, at least to attempt to bring some extra dimension to this site from time to time, adding some video tutorials, some makes, tips and suggestions, and possibly a rant or two along the way.

But, it isn’t all without some trepidation. I have a solid style here on the website, and it is something that I would like to continue even in video form, matching in both visual and content, I just left me to wonder if I’m ready…

I mean, I’m pretty sure that given enough effort I could churn out some fine video content, all well integrated in terms of my desired style and fit, but to become a media star (albeit a z-lister at the most) I’m not so sure that I’m 100% ready for that kind of shit. To be perfectly honest, even though I have a bazillion ideas for Grinning Skull related video content, I’m convinced that even with all the best intentions, for now at least, that part of the interactivity here, won’t be for a while. I mean, would any of you even want to see it?

Can I not get across what I feel I need to articulate in a blog post, that I could in a video? I think until I’m fully committed to putting everything into such endeavors, I should remain as I am. I’m not going to rule out if I ever get any sudden inspiration to do it, hell, I even have some stuff done like a couple of vids and titles etc,  just don’t expect me to release anything yet, well not unless I’m really happy with the end result.

Plus my PC is not in the best of conditions to be rendering huge chunks of HD footage (trust me, it’s not good even with the most basic of tasks!)

Anyway, let me know your thoughts in the comments what do you think? Would you welcome the inclusion of video content here? Are you ready to hear the dulcet tones of my northern accent? Only the viewer can decide….

Catch you all later…

Yes, I agree, although I’m dubious of just how much content I can get done with both the time constraints I have and the amount of abject chaos going on all around me! It is something I want to do, but until most of the cons become pros (so to speak), I cant promise anything at this point!!

Aye, that’s true, I will certainly, I might have to give it a shot and see how it goes. For definite its going to happen within the next few months, just have to give it my best efforts to kick myself up the ass and do it!

I would surely enjoy watching some video tutorials. That said there is an advantage to written tutorials: You can always read over it again, go back a bit etc. sure you can do this in a video, but it can take more time. Some stuff, for instance sculpting, is easier to show, than to describe, so I could see that some of your work might benefit from a tutorial.

I was actually thinking of realeasing soem more videos, too. The main problem is that my camera is not even close to what people exspect these days in quality and video editing will be a new adventure to embark on.

Maybe just make a video on the side, finish it and see how you feel about it, then release it and get an idea what people think. If it doesn’t work you can always come back to the written word only.

Yes I agree totally, I have a ton of possible tutorials in mind, just the first step to get into it, is the hardest (I’m pretty sure I can do it fine, but at the moment the software and hardware aspects are my bane, plus I have really bad lighting that’s stopping me from getting really close up decent footage. I don’t just want to ad-hoc and wing it, I’d like everything to look acceptable to my own satisfaction, which also makes me indecisive too. I will do it though, it is something that’s just a natural extension of what I’m doing anyway1
