Zomtober: Week #3. Better late than never….

24 Oct

Zombtober

Ok, Ok, so I am quite a tad late with this weeks zomtober entry. Real life gets in the way of any hobbyist persuit and while I have had ample chance to get access to my computer, I’m currently dosed with the flu, a damaged knee and aching bones.

Never the less, I did manage to get a couple of likkle zomers done (excuse the pics, they are just ok, not great)

As usual, I’m working through the old glory/blue moon manufacturing 15mm zombies I got a while back.

This time, we have the first crawler type I have in the horde, which I’ve made a bit more bloodied and gruesome, and the bare chested one which I adopted an easy brown/pale flesh gradient with minimal highlights. Easy and effective (plus saves messing around with tons of different pots of colour open etc)

I will be back with the last entry, all being well, on time on Sunday.

Later!

Zomtober 2013: Grinning Skull gets ready to share in Zomtober madness!

So, I’m taking part in the Zomtober festivities (see more details on Zomtober here  and here) In which all participants must paint up at least one survivor or zombie figure per week during the month. Whilst I think most of us taking part will be 28mm zombie gamers, for myself at least in our house, the apocolypse is firmly in the 15mm size!

To continue with my HO zombie hordes, I’d like to present my Zomtober entry, even bigger swarms of the dead!

As you can see, these swarm bases are made up from the very versatile model railway civilian figures in 1/87, easily available from ebay or model railway suppliers. (check out more HO hordes) There’s a “funny” story attached to me finishing these critters off, which involves my wife throwing away all of my basing materials (you know, static grasses, flocks, gravel, lichen etc etc) so I am a bit limited to basing options here! That is until she’s spent quite a bit of cash replacing all what she’s accidentally thrown out!

I’ll be using the larger horde bases to represent big fast moving deadlier swarms during gameplay, that’s why I only did three, which is more than enough, as now my undead horde for 15mm is extremely large, with loads more I haven’t even started yet (including the really nifty Old Glory pack I picked up a bit ago, what I will be painting next for next weeks zomtober entry!)

Crowdfunding Spotlight: Tom Savini’s Death Island movie campaign on Indiegogo

In a departure from the usual wargaming stuff, we go to the realms of movieland and the undead, Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare for Tom Savini‘s Death Island!!

Ok, so if you don’t know who Tom Savini is, you might as well be a zombie! Serious fans of the horror genre will instantly recognise the legendary man behind this brilliant new Indiegogo campaign to raise $1 million to fund a new zombie film, Death Island.

Tom is a SFX pioneer, accomplished actor (Knightriders, Dawn of the dead (original & remake), From Dusk till Dawn) , director and producer, and this new movie will mark his return as director since he did the remake of Romero’s original Night of the Living dead. With the help of us lot, we could make this a reality and even get a speaking role in the upcoming film (Yeah, I wish..) But for the princely sum of $10, you will be added to the credits of the actual movie!

Speaking as someone who grew up with reading Tom’s SFX books, and watching his effects in many horror movies (Especially the original Dawn of the dead, in which not only did he do the zombie SFX, but played a biker too!!) It would be great to think that a lowly zombie fan such as myself could be involved, sure I haven’t the cash to pay the big bucks, but $10 is a great price for what you get, and you’ll really be helping out too! I’m definately up for this, and hope that some of you out there will dole out a little $10 zombie love for our Tom, to get a great sounding Zombie movie made (One with some proper pedigree too!!)

Involved as well, is the one and only Tony (Candyman) Todd, Tiffany Shepis and Debbie Rochon, and more thought to be signing on too once funding is secured.  The plot seems to indicate that the themes will take the Zombie back to its voodoo roots, and add more to the movie mythology of these undead flesheaters! Brilliant!!

$10 is around £6.50 or so, so as soon as I get a few pounds spare, I’ll be funding for a space in the limelight!!

How about you? Get over and check it out people!

Update: I’d just like to say many thanks to Tom for the link back from the project page! Good luck with the movie!!
