So, it’s been a while since the Grinning Skull Miniature line has had any new additions, but fear not, in true honour of Pennywise the Dancing Clown and all things Halloween, we have some lovely little murder dwarves to use in your miniature based games!
These diminutive and horrible harlequins are suitable for either 15mm, 20mm and 28/32mm gaming, and in true Grinning Skull style have both a humorous and sinister edge to them! Available as a pack of 10 (GRNP06) for £9.00, or as singles too.
Also, if you’re a fan of Grinning Skull miniature strangeness, please keep your eyes peeled for new releases coming soon in the range, trust me when I say that amongst them will be that which a lot of you have been asking me about for years now, no spoilers, but those who’ve asked me will know exactly what they are!
As ever, let me know your thoughts on these and the range, I’d love to hear what game you’d use them in, how you’ve painted them and what other stuff you think would be a great idea to add to the growing range!!!

A subject not talked about on here for ages is that of the Clown sightings of the past few years. The worldwide craze started by the Northampton Clown, caused much fear and loathing in the community in the UK and US and started a viral sensation that now is but a distant memory.
September sees the release of the new version of Stephen King’s seminal horror, “IT” which I’m sure that we are all familiar with. The movie looks like something most fans of the horror genre will be looking forward to, but maybe not if you’re caulrophobia (Phobic of clowns) but the whole thing has got me thinking that while the whole craze is old hat now, we might be seeing a resurgence of such antics again once the movie has been released.
If you haven’t seen the trailer for the new film yet, where have you been? No longer will we see the great Tim Curry don the guise of the infamous “Pennywise the dancing clown”, but now Bill Skarsgard will play the evil alien entity who disguises itself as a variety of head fucks to feast on the young residents of the town of Derry.
For those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, here it is before we carry on with the discourse.
Looks ok, but the proof of the pudding will be seeing the movie in its entirety. It does look as if the movie will deal with the first part of the story (when they were kids) with a sequel in the works probably to carry on the second part of the story (when they are adults) and have to face “IT” once more to stop its reign of terror.
This aside, I’m pretty sure we are going to get the onslaught of clown sightings as a response to the movie’s release. There will always be some joker (get it?!) ready to put on the clown suit and mask and start scaring people for a variety of reasons, be it for publicity, for viral hits or simply to spite those who live in fear of clowns. This is a big issue, seriously bigger than you’d realise, some people really do have a proper fear of all things clown. the last time I blogged about them, at one point I received 160,000 hits in a day just on one post about the subject and over 100 private messages and emails! A real boost for my humble site stats for sure, but a real eye-opener in terms of how much this subject affects people’s lives and psyches.
I recently took my kids to the circus, myself hoping that the clown/s there would be creepy enough to entertain me (well, I’m not scared of clowns if you’re wondering) but what I ended up finding is that “real career clowns” if I can call them that, are somewhat watered down compared to the traditional idea, which for me at least was a bit disappointing!
What I will do here, is monitor the subject in the media over the course of the movie release, and what I find, I will blog about. One thing is assured this time, is that if my own area sees the return of the Doncaster Clown (or other pretenders to the title) I will try my best to get an interview with the guy, in fact, if there are any other regional clowns, I’ll also try to start up a conversation with them, just to see what motivates these folks to do what they do!
Who knows, I might end up making some clown related PDFs, minis or similar type stuff to cash in on the craze (well, if it happens) and the very least should help me shift some books!
Whatever happens, mark my words. The clowns will return, and I’ll be here to keep you up to date with the associated craziness that comes along with it! Let me know your thoughts and comments on the subject!

Here’s something I never thought I’d be revisting, but once again I’m back with more new Clown News, a feature that has been rather popular here on the Grinning Skull blog. Ok, so I thought as many did, that the clown craze was just a fad that had died out, but I was wrong.
Not to be out done by us Brits, across the pond, a familiar face seems to have taken a vacation to the US, and as you can plainly see, now the Staten Island area of NY has aquired their very own northampton clown lookie-likie! Could it be either that he’s taking a holiday, or that he has cloned (or should I say Clowned!) himself?
America beware, the clowns are coming!! (please note: this was trecently revealed as a publicity stunt, so still the UK seems the home of the creepy clowns!)
Also back at the beginning of march, there was more clown madness in the North west of England, with even more reports of clowing around, another indication that things were far from over regarding creepy clown sightings…
And now there are reports of a new clown criminal on the scene, this time down south in Cambridge, will the craze ever stop? Everytime there seems to be a lull in the sightings, up pop more costumed weirdos! Full story on auntie beeb’s website here:
Is this the masked fiend that’s taken the mantle of the Woodlands Clown in Doncaster? As you remember I mentioned yesterday, about a sighting just round the corner from us here, and it caused a real hoo-har I can tell you, pretty soon after all the upset, we have managed to get a still of the culprit from the cctv. (it’s the best still I could get, he was running fast so not in the frame for long)
This is a shot taken from the cctv footage of the escaping clown from last night. Alright, it’s not the clearest of images, but you can see that the person seen to run from the scene, wears a distinctive white clown mask. In the video footage (Which I will upload as soon as I convert the format over to a web uploadable one) he shoots off quickly from the scene.
From the looks, all the guy is wearing is a mask, no accompanying costume, and is seen dressed in a padded hooded jacket, and plain white trainers. In a strict sense we can only assume this event as a prank, given that they lacked the whole ensemble of matching clown gear. I would say this person probably is a teen (as they ran away really quick) and that they were between 5’6″ – 5’10 in height. I think that for people in the area of Woodlands, that they don’t have an actual creepy clown, rather a creep in a clown mask! At least if they are going to try doing the whole clown thing, to up their game somewhat, stop being a Tesco value jester, and put some proper effort into it, cheapskate!!
Seriously, wearing just a mask does not qualify as being a “proper” local scary clown! At least plenty of the other cut price pennywise’s go to the effort of actually dressing up for the part, any fool can stick a mask on and scare unsuspecting victims! Close but no cigar.
More clown snippets from the web now, more on other freaky fiends haunting other northern towns…
In this article from the Star newspaper (and online) which states the Safer neighbourhoods team say:
“We are aware that there are a number of reports circulating on social media of a clown being seen on the streets of South Yorkshire.“There have been no actual sightings of a clown reported to police or any crimes committed.”
If this is “true”, then I find it hard to believe that no one has made any reports at all. I think its more likely that they are trying to downplay the clown crisis, just to stop the fear and worry. Methinks a request for information (freedom of information and all that) will be in order, just to see exactly how many reports SYP have recieved about it.
With the uproar of tonights clown sighting around here, not only were paramedics alerted, but also police officers, already with this fact, the statement is already false! Even my mother-in-law rang up to enquire about her concern when the thing started, and I also imagine that others have done so as well! Wait till some old dear gets a shock from a clown and keels over dead? Just harmless fun then is it?
Obviously people are scared, understandably so, its not everyday a costumed psycho taps on your windows dressed as a clown! Yes I know that the rumours are just that, rumours, but no one can deny that somethings going on. the residents round here were almost getting pitchforks and flaming torches to hunt down and lynch the culprit (which in today’s fiasco, there were two occasions to the same place, either the same one or there is another working in pairs etc.)
I still think its just a load of publicity seeking pranksters, scaring folks for fun. But even so, the intent to scare and harass must be considered some type of criminal act? How police can say no crime has occurred is strange, surely tresspass at least, they seem to have no trouble usually making up stuff to charge people with, why not now?
This article here detailing the Grimsby clown is a new one for the list, and a bit more well researched than usual, only thing is if that picture is the actual Scunthorpe clown, he’s not even scary! It’s like Mr Tumble has just raided a charity shop! Admittedly the Market Rasen clown is more creepy, but it seems that at this rate every town and city in the UK will end up with a clown, all you need is some silly fucker with a £19.99 clown outfit and a latex mask off ebay!
Ok, so these lot are new editions to my cultist units, and a mixed lot they are. all the ones you can see here are virtually kitbashed from a variety of parts and models from all different companies to fit with the ones I already have. You might recall that my existing cultists are the […]
Ok, so this isn’t really an addition to the army in the same sense as the rest, but I did want to get some Nurgle appropriate scenics to help place the minis more with the sort of background I have come up with for my lot. Since my Death Guard are “The Sentinels of His […]
Back with more from my horde of Nurgle’s finest. This time I’m going to show you one of my personalities in the army, someone who I’m calling “Brother Fingaz”. Brother Fingaz is a big and tall fellow (80mm from bottom of the base) and some of you miniature connoisseurs will recognise the model from CMON’s […]
So, if you recall, I had a big stack of Chaos Spawn proxies already done with a load of chaos snails and some horrors from the 7 sins game, but since I have a love for weird and creepy shit, every time I saw something that would make great spawn proxies, I just had to […]
Its been a while since I posted anything on my Deathguard Army for 40K, and realised I hadn’t shown off my plague marines. I have taken the same direction with all the models in the army, with very few actual GW unmodified minis. Sure there are a few, but I decided that from the start […]
So, since you all now know about the new Grinning Skull Payhip store https://payhip.com/grinningskullstudios , I want to let you know about the Night of the Living Dead Digital Collection, available exclusively from there. This new range is based upon the Original 1968 horror classic from maestro, George A Romero.
So, more Nurgley Chaos goodness with this possible proxy unit of poxwalkers that I painted. Now, this lot were originally from CP Models (apart from the front model, which I’ll address in a bit) and are from their sci-fi range and are intended to be B-Movie type plant creatures. (These models can be found here […]
Well, as the saying goes, better late than never, indeed we are a few days late in posting the mammoth load of Grinning Skull studios publications that were released last month. I actually think that it’s a new record here, which also leaves us only 31 releases left before we hit 200 Grinning Skull publications in […]
Yet again, I’m back with another new PDF, this time with a new addition to the modern horror themed apocalypse range of model detailing; Apocalypse 28mm: Warnings and notices of the dead. This is a collection of modern horror zombie themed signage to add to your models and projects. This PDF can be used with […]
Hello there everyone, just a quick post (or shameless plug!) to tell you that the 15mm Newspapers and Magazines PDFs previously available from the download section here, have now been cleaned up and spliced together and are available for download directly from Wargames Vault. Now entitled Apocolypse 15mm: Newspapers & Magazine Debris, it contains all […]
