It’s competition month: Get involved in the Pendraken Painting Competition 2014!

17 Jan

It must be miniature painting competition month, as well as Dropship Horizon having a comp, The pendraken guys also have the yearly Pendraken painting competition too!

Whilst it’s not 15mm scifi, this time it’s 10mm figures from their range only, but with all the great stuff they have in any of their myriad of ranges, you’ll find something to capture your imagination. There are lots of prizes too to be had, so if you fancy taking part, you’ll need to get registered on the Pendraken forum and make yourself a member first. Don’t be shy, they aren’t a bad lot over there, and there’s always some interesting conversations going on, wargames related or not!

As for me, I don’t think I have enough time to enter this year, maybe next time!

Pendraken’s Post our paint campaign on change.org

5 Dec

Rather than you hear me waffle on, I thought I’d lift this straight from Leon’s post from the Pendraken Forum:

What is this?
Due to recent changes in their shipping restrictions, Royal Mail will no longer ship more than 4 pots of water-based paint per package, with each pot having a maximum volume of 150ml.  Packages which breach this policy are identified by x-ray and then sent away to be destroyed.  Repeat offenders will then be prosecuted.

Who does this affect?
There are a lot of people in the UK sending or receiving paints, whether for hobby or professional use, and policies like this are also restricting a variety of small businesses.  Thousands of people order water-based paints every week, and we hope to gain enough support for Royal Mail to consider changing the restrictions on these items.

Why are these paints restricted?
We have spoken with various people about this, from Royal Mail themselves, through to the Department of Transport and the Dangerous Goods Office, and so far we have not been given a definitive reason as to why these restrictions exist.  The Royal Mail allows shipping of alcohol of up to 1 litre in volume, even in glass bottles, yet five small pots of paint, less than 100ml total, would be against the restrictions.  We are currently awaiting a reply from the Royal Mail Policy Team with more information on the restrictions, and whether a change is possible.

Should these paints be restricted?
We have provided Royal Mail with Material Safety Data Sheets from some of the more well-known manufacturers of paint, which show that these items are perfectly safe to ship.  We will continue to collect evidence of this type and forward it to Royal Mail.

What is the aim of this petition?
Our initial aim is for a change to the policy to allow a larger volume of water-based paints to be sent in one package, a change to match the 1 litre maximum on alcohol would be ideal.  Even an increase to 600ml total would be a great start.  Many small businesses in the UK are having a very hard time at the moment, and lifting these restrictions would be a welcome boost to a lot of people.

What can I do?
First and foremost, we need people to register their support by joining the petition on Change.org.  If you buy paints on a regular basis, please mention how many paints/occasions you are buying per year on average, as this will help us show the volumes of business RM is potentially missing out on.

If you are a manufacturer or seller of paints, please mention your company name as well.

Finally, please spread the word about this.  We need to get the message out as far and wide as possible, so that we can gain enough support to make a difference.  Please post it on any forums you frequent and any blogs you write, on your Facebook or your Twitter.  The more coverage we can get, the more chance we’ve got of making a change, and then we can all get back to some painting!

Thanks for reading, your support is really appreciated.

Please show your support for this and sign the petition! Help spread the word and feel free to reblog this about where you think it might help.

10mm Zombies now available from Pendraken!

24 Sep

Finally it’s time to start zombie wargaming in a new scale, yes Pendraken have released the new scifi revamps, which includes the much anticipated zombies and survivors!

Now I just need to start thinking about making some appropriate scenery in 10mm and getting some of these bad boys! If you don’t wargame the apocolypse, then I forsee this could be an ideal low cost way to get into the genre, especially as they are cheap as chips!! Ok, so it’s not 15mm (Like I harp on about all the time) but it is still zombies, so all is forgiven!! As for a ruleset, most would work with a bit of jiggling around, but I’d recommend USE ME ZOMBIE DAWN ( as it’s the one I play) You can read my review here if you want to take a look!

SFZ1 walking zombies (10) £1.80

SFZ2 standing zombies (10) £1.80

SFZ3 crawling zombies £1.80

SFZ4 female zombies and child

SFZ5 zombie dogs (5) £1,00

SFZ6 survivors (30) £5.00

Also there is an army/bundle available if you want to start 10mm zombie gaming, for the great price of £13 for 60 assorted zombies and dogs, and 25 survivors, thats plenty if you plan on skirmish gaming with them, you might need a few more if you want to base them in multiples and go all guns for sheer numbers!

Check out the zombies on the Pendraken website http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Sci-Fi-c24/Zombies-sc294/

Another great figure released in the scifi revamp is this Grey alien, as usual I see the implications in 15mm gaming, and I think at 12mm high he’d make great minions for the whole plethora of greys already available from lots of 15mm  manufacturers. Unarmed civilians, technical personel and so on can all be achieved with this figure, I know I’ll be getting a pack of these too on my next order to join my small advance force of greys (plus death ray UFO) If you really have to use them in 10mm scale gaming (god forbid! :)) they’d be cool for that too, and much of the 15mm stuff like saucers and drones will work equally well too!

You’ll find all the new released Scifi stuff, as well as the old stuff (don’t forget the civilian figures from the old range, they will do fine for extra citizens in any zombie or UFO invasion!) over on the Pendraken website http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Sci-Fi-c24/

Cheque now please Leon!!

10mm Zombies: Pendraken zombie survivors preview!

18 May

For those of you who are anticipating the release of Pendraken’s 10mm modern zombie miniatures, take a look at the greens over on the Pendraken forum!

Sculpted by the very talented industry veteran, Phil Lewis, these little survivors are going to be a great addition to the forthcoming range in this scale. I myself will be looking forward for the chance to do some Z gaming using them, and lets hope that the buying public will see good sense and buy shed loads of them, so the guy’s at Pendraken see fit to keep supporting the range with other Z specific and modern stuff to fill out our 10mm post apocolyptic cityscapes.

Go on over to the Pendraken forum and join in the conversation!!

Something for the zombies to chase..

Survivors ahoy! Pendraken 10mm sci-fi civilians

28 Feb

I thought I’d share with you my last entry to the Pendraken painting comp 2013. This lot are from their sci-fi range, Male sci-fi civilians and female civilians. They turned out ok and don’t have a cat in hell’s chance of winning I don’t think, but regardless of the comp the reason I got them was ready for the release of their 10mm modern zombie range coming soon (which I will be getting you can be sure!)

While there aren’t too many armed ones in the mix, they are fine for modern survivor types that one would need in a 10mm apocolypse. My plan is to run a long campaign in both 10mm and 15mm. With that in mind I need to replicate key models and scenery from 15mm in 10mm. What is handy is that Model railway N scale is pretty much a good match for 10mm, so it should be relatively easy to find the same sized modern stuff I need (plus I use a lot of card scenics, so a bit of jiggling the print out, I can match all of the cardstock layout like for like) N scale is pretty popular so there are lots of cars, buses, tiny bits of details and cool things I can add to the mix, I love it all and intend to use it so the 10mm games where I get the chance to pit zombies vs government forces. I can even do airport based games like in the movies and computer games as there are lots of 1/144 options for 747s and aircraft.

It will be sweeet!!!!

The main survivors in my 15mm lot will also need proxies, so that’s what is going to be a pain, but a bit of imagination and innovation I reckon i’ll suss it out.

As you can see, here’s what I have so far, I have a male armed civvy in a baseball cap, a civilian female and a mixed group of fleeing folks, they will do for scenarios like evacuations, riots, rescues and a whole host of other stuff where panicking bods are needed.

The single based ones are to represent my main survivors, or my cast so to speak.

So, as you can see, this is Beth 10mm, and Beth 15mm, She is a main player in the campaign. Beth is a tough cookie, before the event, she was a reporter for the Herald. She has seen her share of danger, betrayal and death since it happened, but has managed to keep some humanity for others in her situation. The learning curve was steep, but now she kicks ass.

This is  Joe (10mm little Joe & 15mm big Joe!), Joe used to drive his truck for a local logging company before the event. He had his issues with his boss, his on off girlfriend, and his heavy drinking. When the undead took all that away from him, having to decapitate his girl lead him to give up the booze and not waste what was left of his life. Joe still has his truck and is a sureshot with his double barreled shotgun. He used to love hunting at the weekend with his buddies, nowadays he still hunts but with things as they are, it could be his buddies he ends up hunting…..

So you get the idea, my plan is to get my main 15mm survivors with their little versions. Hopefully Leon and Dave have some good matches planned for their 10mm survivors, and hopefully some existing ones in their ranges now that should fit for what I need. It’s going to be a challenge, but will be great fun getting the chance to keep the campaign interesting to fit a whole heap of new gaming options into it that I would have problems with doing in 15mm.

More civvies to come and a few more 10 & 15mm characters. Even Joe’s truck comes in two sizes….

Peace out surivors…..
