40K Death Guard Army: More devotees to join the cult of Nurgle. More Chaos Cultists…

16 Sep

Ok, so these lot are new editions to my cultist units, and a mixed lot they are. all the ones you can see here are virtually kitbashed from a variety of parts and models from all different companies to fit with the ones I already have. You might recall that my existing cultists are the trencher models from CP Models range, and as such those models have a sort of uniformity with the whole WW1 scifi vibe.

Wanting to continue with something similar, but add in some random chaotic elements for good measure, so I got hold of a load of bits and part sprues from some sellers on Ebay and got to work cobbling together new weirdos for the cult.

These first lot are the combination of the now out of production sci-fi germans plastic kit (sorry, can’t remember the company who made them) and some Gripping Beast Saracen warriors for the bodies. I only had the heads, arms and backpacks to work with from the German troopers, but wanted the look of greatcoats, so combining the two, I think worked well, and fitted with what troops I already had. I do wish I had more, but since they are cultists, I don’t mind too much since they are supposed to be corrupted planetary defense troop types, that had turned to chaos.

This bunch are where we get into more mix and match territory, kinda like total mental freaks from the civilian side rather than military. These were made from a whole variety of different parts. Some old plastic Warhammer fantasy empire models, WW2 Germans, the sci-fi Germans for their heads, Chaos marauders with the flails, and odds and sods from whatever I could find in my bits. They still fit the look I wanted since their faces are covered in gas mask type breathers, and are scabby enough to fit right in.

These three consist of the first being again like the previous, a mix of said bits from all sorts of bits, while the standard bearer and the end one were from resin figures I got from Curtis at Ramshackle Games. These were miscasts and broken, so I got to work repairing and adding to them to fit the army. the banner was made from Milliput and then painted up with a suitable Death Guard cult pattern that will be present in any additional cult iconography and vehicles (and trust me, I plan on making a proxy Rhino or vehicle dedicated and crewed by cult members with that colour scheme)

So, here is the entire lot so far. This isn’t all my cultists by far, I think I have at least 40 other models I could add, although I have none of them finished. I may save some of them for my proposed Thousand Sons cultists as they might be a better fit there (robed nutters much like the old Necromunda Cawdor gangers in style) and for sure I’ll be adding a whole box of the Mantic Plague zombies I have to act as either cultists, or proto-poxwalkers sort of like a precursor to what will eventually happen to cult members, they are just fodder after all, aren’t they?

I’ll be back later with more stuff, probably with my Assault Drill or maybe something else…

40K Death Guard Army: Brother Fingaz enters the fray.

14 Sep

Back with more from my horde of Nurgle’s finest. This time I’m going to show you one of my personalities in the army, someone who I’m calling “Brother Fingaz”.

Brother Fingaz is a big and tall fellow (80mm from bottom of the base) and some of you miniature connoisseurs will recognise the model from CMON’s boardgame “7 Sins” Apocalypse expansion, which I acquired at a bargain price for my chaos boys. Here’s a comparison pic to show size.

I named this guy Brother Fingaz as I thought he had a striking resemblance to a popular YouTube cartoon character you may or may not know about, Salad Fingers (a creation of famous fellow Doncaster creator, David Firth.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeE-J-GjAyQ to take a look at an episode.

Ok, he’s not exactly like good old Salad fingers, but I did think the aesthetic was a good match. I was planning on adding a little Hubert Cumberdale flesh boy familiar on the base, but decided against it.

Originally I was thinking as using him as a proxy for a Daemon Prince, but may end up making him my plague surgeon, as I think he might fit better, although he’s a little big for one (not that I care, the aesthetic is what matters to me more) but he could fit the bill as my Lord, or plague caster too, if I want to. I do have a plague caster in the wings (2 if I think about it), and a Lord, and a Prince. Whatever I use him as, He’s going to be a bad ass to help bring the blessings of Papa Nurgle!

Like I’ve said before, I have a LOT of other stuff to add to the horde, which I’m thinking of calling “The Sentinels of his Garden” or something smilar, since my thinking is that once these lot hit planetfall, they begin seeding it with their corruption, introducing diseased spores, plants and all sorts to recreate Nurgle’s garden. This gives me an option to add a bit of scratch built scenery additions like these:

These little Gnarlmaws I will show you in the next post. See you then!

Painting WIP: Two headed Troll Sculpt

11 Feb

DSCF3818

So, I’m getting through loads of stuff paintwise, that needs doing, and this has been put off for ages. This is of course, my own two headed troll sculpt thats been waiting for a long time. You’ll have to excuse the shadow on many of these pics due to the lack of natural light and my ability to adjust my camera exposure to the correct levels, but I’ve tried, just so I can give you a look at how he’s progressing (and keep me on track with all my progress)

Spurred on by recent old-skool Grenadier troll, its given me a proper kick up the arse to get his buddies done, and Fnar-frag has been next in line.

He’s a big feller this troll (You’ll see when hes done compared to the rest of his folks) but as a personality within them, I really wanted him to stand out. When I sculpted him, it was intended that he’d fulfill a leadership role of some kind within this section of trolls, yet I think I might make him an army standard instead. The reason being that of the odd pose with his hand. Originally I was going to make a goblin puppet on wires that the corresponding side had been playing with. Just is that I constantly kept changing my mind about it, so having tried a few options out previously, I think now he’s going to get an appropriate sized standard instead, as theres still a lot of work to do with the figure until I’m happy with it. Of course, I’ll pop up more WIP as I go on, but for now this is as far as I am (as of this afternoon)

The scheme I chose was a genestealer-ish one that would match the grenadier one (not that it does really, but most of my trolls are from different places, so for me its not really a problem) The intention is to paint up each unit in the troll army with a different colour scheme (grey stone trolls coming soon, and some greenies as well, just that I’m sick of painting stuff green lately) Theres loads of highlighting left to do on his scaly back, plus outlining and other bits. Like I said this is not a small figure, so with an added standard, etc, theres loads of hours work for me left.

I think he’s ok how its gone in both sculpting and painting up, but I think the next ones I do will come out better each time. I think I could get fine in making trolls, so much in fact if there were any takers, I’d do a whole lot of other trolls in a range, multipart that is, all with interchangable heads and weapons, then you’d get some nice variety and combos. They wouldn’t be as big, but just as mean and cartoony. Realistic they aint never going to be, as what is the point? I like it anyway!

I’ll be back later with some painted bits from my 15mm space orc army and no doubt more drivel….

Draxxon Army: Draxxon Power Armor

11 Feb

DSCF3813

I’ve added another addition to my own draxx army, this time its a repurposed Zoids mini-diorama model done in matching colours to my draxx forces. This model I got for a song off ebay quite a while ago. It’s not one of the expensive model kits, nor the old ones from yesteryear, this one is slightly bigger than the largest draxx model, so it’s a good fit.

What was a bit of a bastard was the rubbery vinyl plastic this “diorama” piece was made from, which made preparation and painting more a chore, but it worked out ok in the end (I think) It did have extra bits of scenics, broken and bent girders from destroying something before posing, but I left them out for a more clear view of the mech/bot itself.

Next up will be some of my own grinning skull Miniatures Mutant Reptiloids too add to the mix, while they aren’t the nicest of figures I’ve done, they still match up in style and add much needed heavy firepower to my force (more on them later.

Remember, if your after getting some draxx for yourself, they can be found at wargames supply dump here.

Troll Tribe: Old School Grenadier War Troll.

5 Feb

DSCF3806

I’ve been turning my hand back to painting up stuff from my lead pile of late, and thought it was about time to start up another unit. Since this old Fantasy Warriors Troll was already undercoated and pre prepared, I thought I might as well get around to it. My trolls are a mixed bunch, but I sort of like the random mix of styles they are made up from. I think he’s missing a shield, but don’t think he needs one to be honest, since none of my others have them either.

DSCF3807

This time I’ve opted for a purple skin tone, pale tones not heavy deep purples, topped with a mop of green scraggly hair. Sort of like “The Joker” colours I thought after they had gone on, but at least this next unit will contrast with my other lot (they are quite bright blue) and since I have a set of what I think will have to be stone trolls in grey, the tones in this unit will match up in similar shades.

DSCF3808

You’ll also notice that these lot are going to have tattoos, something the others don’t (but my giant does) so again, there will be a tie into the rest. of course I’ve got my own sculpt two headed troll leader to go with him next, and two quite nice forest trolls from CP models. I even have a smaller metal two headed troll to act as the leaders son, but when I got it, it really was subpar compared to the rest, and a little too small to fit, but I might end up adapting him somewhat before he gets into the tribe! My son has a nice big plastic D&D troll out of the drizzt boardgame, so I might have to make him an offer and add it to my boyos. I had this idea a long time ago to create two sides to fight in a giant wars type setting for a game, one side trolls, the other giants, so that’s where I’m heading with this. (just have one giant so far..)

Next troll up will be the ettin leader, which I just need to add a weapon, not sure what exactly, but I think I have a big sword in my spares box that’ll fit.

Back later with more painted bits….
