Crowdfunding Spotlight: Dawn: Rise of the Occulites Kickstarter

25 Jun

Darwin Games new KS is now live, and I for one really dig these great looking mini’s. Sculpted by industry veteran  Bob Olley, they are highly original and fun. Note to self: add some of these figures to my wish list. I did have a look at these before and thought they were fabulous figures, if they are anything to go by, the game should be cool too. As you can see there is not too much on the market at the moment that match these weird creatures, which is a good thing in my opinion, I’d love an army of the little critters!

Yes, it’s true they are a little bizzarre and cartoony, but I think they are great. Purists might scoff and moan about them being a little too weird for their liking, but in a gaming world full of overdone cliches its good to see more sky blue thinking from designers!

There’s less than $7k to go, so I have no doubt this will get full funding, although if you haven’t backed the project, there’s still plenty of time to get involved!!

Go and check them out!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: Havoc Risk Boards Kickstarter

15 Jun

Now, I am a real big RISK fan, so when I saw this project, I really want to get in on the action! Not only do they have a wide variety of different themed boards and accompanying card sets, but there are options for custom etched wooden boards.

Normally I don’t buy download type stuff, preferring a hard copy, but I really fancy getting the UK map in digital form (and maybe europe and a few others too) and getting them printed out onto a vinyl banner for gaming (and a nice set of card printed up too) RISK is a great game, but getting the chance to play other boards will allow you to shake up the game a little to try something unfamiliar.

If your a fan like me and my lot, this is a great KS. Lots of choice will be added as more stretch goals are unlocked! It’s a fantastic idea that I’m surprised it hasn’t been done this way before. Good news is they are over the $20,000 goal, so it will be funded (and you’ll be buying into a winner)

Go and take a look, and I promise that if your a RISK nut like me, your going to love it!

Crowdfunding Spotlight: SURRENDER the Bible Board Game Kickstarter

11 Jun

Now, somehow I don’t think this will ever catch on, but at first look at the graphic for this board game, I did think that for some reason this project was something to do with a biblically themed battle (Given the fact it’s called “Surrender”, quite a dynamic name for a wargame, don’t you think?)

Only, it isn’t.

Surrender, is a strange game, in which players seem to have to recite bits out of the bible every time they land on a square on the board.  As you can make out, each square has a word on it, and whatever word you get, you have to say a verse/line etc with that word on it.

All I can say is if I was playing, I would be shit at it! I don’t know fuck all about it enough to even stand a chance, mind you 99% of everyone I know would be as shit as me too. Too bad with it, as the presentation is quite eye catching. I do think that if you did find the game mechanics attractive, you’d be hard pressed to find an opponent.

Given that board games of this type are the niche within a niche (specialist christian boardgames and that!) sad fact is this is going to sink like a lead balloon. Maybe the best idea for this would have been to ask their local christian group or church to help get the funds.

Better still, why not make a biblical themed war boardgame, none of this bible phrase bollocks, a good, playable strategy game around the ancient themes. It might appeal to a lot more than just the Christian boardgames market (Does that even exist?)

Check it out if you sounds your cup of tea, get on over.

Personally I’ll stick with RISK!

Peace out….
