Grinning Skull Miniatures: Behold the mighty Clukkatrix!

29 Jul

A belated Grinning Skull Miniatures release from Alternative Armies, I present to you the clukkatrix. A huge mutant chukk to intimidate your enemies! Imagine these bloodthirsty muties ravaging the field of war, or even in a dungeon crawl as a monster to test your adventurers?

These beasts are what nightmares are made, huge mutated chukk let loose on the enemy in a whirl of claws and feathers, a terrible sight to behold. When a chukk warrior has been “evolved” through either over stimulation, or artificially, it may become a Warp-chukk, or indeed a monstorous Clukkatrix. So wild and dangerous are they, that any mind control methods are no use any more, and these creatures are free to roam where ever they like, attacking anything in sight and devouring the victims. The mutation shift, harkens back to ancient DNA locked inside from aeons ago, so their appearance is that of a mixed avian and saurian variety, and produces a beast running on pure instinct.

Clukkatrix have several deadly forms of attack, a sharp razor like beak and claws, slash, peck and rend the enemy (and ally) to a bloody pulp, while their noxious belches and farts release clouds of deadly poisonous gas that are generated from the rapid mutations. Often this gas build up leads to them exploding when destroyed, causing even more gore and carnage. The Clukkatrix are by no means a stable mutation unlike the Chukkasaurus or other chukk mutant strains, so don’t tend to last long once changed. It still can happen that eventually they may calm down enough to revert back to a chukk, the chances are slim though, since the Clukkatrix’s rage escalates with momentum once it has changed.

Any force that counts chukk in its ranks are prone to this change, which can be a blessing, or a curse, that is of course depending upon the wind of fate, as an unlucky warlord may find himself and his best troops nearby to a chukk that has changed form, or be too close when it’s final cock-a-doodle-doo, becomes shock-a-doodle-boom!

You can get one of these lovely resin beast for your game from the fine fellows at Alternative armies, as well as all the rest of the other Grinning Skull range!

Grinning Skull Miniatures new releases: Chukk warriors!

21 May

Heres today’s other release from Grinning Skull Miniatures over at Alternative Armies, the Chukk, mutant chicken (and Dodo of course) warriors of the League of Anthracks! Ever wished you could field an entire army of chicken men muties? Well, now you can, with this new release! Astound your opponents, crush your enemies and leave them with egg on their faces (as well as other intentional chicken related mirth!!) Here’s the Carnage Continuum fiction to inform you of just howthey fit into the strange universe of the Omega Gamma quadrant….

Chukk are the deadly brainwashed minions of the League of Anthracks. These mutant ground bird hybrids are psychotic shock troops that willingly sacrifice themselves in battle for the pleasure of their oggum masters. In the repertoire of the evil and twisted Okvan scientists of the League, as well as Treatment Y, there exists “Stimulant X”, the agent from which these creatures are made.
It all begins when the scientists choose a suitable “eggmutha”. An Eggmutha is one of the largest and meanest of the native giant ground birds, fertile enough to produce hundreds of eggs in the process. the Eggmutha’s are then restrained and force fed specially formulated feed to make them lay rapidly. The eggs are incubated separately and during which, the developing embryos are administered stimulant X daily, until they hatch.
Once hatched, the process produces fully developed Chukk. they are then taken to a secret conditioning centre to begin the “training”. This involves many parts, from electric shock therapy, to weeks long narcotic based brainwashing programs, that will strip way any placidity and harden them for war. This makes them deadly in conflict, as wave after wave will serve as fodder for the real attack. Their absolute fearlessness isn’t the only thing that makes them feared, but rather the other attributes that come from their creation. If a chukk becomes too stimulated at any point, they will begin to mutate. Mutated chukk are known as Warp-chukk, this form makes them double or triple in size and mass and begin to break from the shackles of their mental programming. They will attack anything close, gathering in violent momentum culminating in the volatile gases within them exploding and causing carnage. However, a warp-chukk may continue to mutate, giving form to even deadlier forms such as the chukkasaurus rex and the mighty clukkatrix. Many sorts of birds are used in the experiments, inculding Turkeys, pheasants, grouse, ducks and geese, and even vultures in the mix. Not all of them work out as successfully as the standard chukk, but probably the most receptive genus used are the mutant Dodo stock, known as the Doodah.
So successful in the process, they often keep some sembalance of sanity and mostly never break. They are often seen in elite units in numbers, or leading other types of chukk in battle or labour. Chukk do break the cycle, and go rogue often, so it is not uncommon to see mercenary units on any side. They usually have an axe to grind about the past masters and thirst for revenge against the League, and its heard that this can even happen in battle, swaying the tide of war in favour of the league’s enemies. All in all, the chukk are a foe not to be underestimated and are renown for sheer savagery by survivors of conflicts they were a part of…..
So, if you want your own warhost of mad chicken mutants, get over and visit Alternative armies, where you can find the kize, baahl, oggra, oggborg and the other Grinning Skull Miniatures range.
Keep an eye out for further releases coming soon from Grinning Skull Miniatures, like the tentacled alien invaders, the Zarglians, and the fearsome mutant Clukkatrix!!!

Taking inspiration from life….

9 May

Some of you may wonder why exactly I have taken upon myself to at some points, to sculpt strange chicken mutant creatures in my endeavors.

The Clukkatrix and the chukk being the examples I’m referring to (in the photos), but I do get asked just why my creations come about.

clukatrix

Simply put, the things around me influence me a lot, and in these instances I admit are inspired by my chickens. I’ve kept chooks for a few years now, and since having a flock I wish I’d done it years before. Not only are they easy to keep and maintain, but provide an essential service to myself and my clan (well, egg production)

As much as I love my cats, I think I actually prefer chooks (sorry cats!) not that my cats don’t provide usefulness around my home (they keep the woodmice getting in our house) but when your getting a box or more of free range eggs everyday (you know how much a box of large free range eggs are nowadays, anything from £1.50+) it’s hard to not admire them from their household input. I find them fascinating, and spend ages watching their behavior and nuances, each one with separate personalities, studying them more and more you see the similarities to the prehistoric, I imagine that dinosaurs were similar to them in both movement and ferocity (yes, chooks are sometimes very aggressive to each other, other animals and humans) There is indeed something extremely primordial and raw about these creatures that intrigues me, hence the miniature chicken references.

Simply put, I love my chooks.

To top things off, I’ve been incubating for the past few months with no avail, that is until yesterday. Now I have to say all the patience and constant temperature and humidity checking has paid off.

chook0004

Finally, with today’s latest arrival, that’ll be 10 in total from the 12 that were incubated, not bad me thinks! although these tiny polish bantams are no trouble to house and feed, I’m sure that things will change really rapidly and they’ll soon need loads of room and cost a kings ransom to feed!

All in all, will this lead to more mini-sculpts of chicken related mutants and madness? Probably not, but I’ve always wanted to make the Chukkasaurus Rex……

Grinning Skull Miniatures: Greens, greens everywhere etc, etc..

16 Sep

draxx0011

Howdy all, just got around to showing off a few more greens I’ve been doing over the last few weeks, these lot are virtually done, however I might do a few minor additions/alterations to small aspects until I’m happy enough with em’!

I finally got to finish the Draxxion battle group from before. As you can see two troopers, a heavy and a larger alpha leader to go with the larger overseer elite. You’ll notice that the normal troopers are smallest, wiry ones, and the heavy is stockier and a lot bulkier to carry the additional load. The alpha is as you’d expect, biggest, these fellers are dragons and I imagined them to keep getting bigger depending upon their age, eventually he would become one of the overseer elite if he survived long enough, maybe eventually becoming a huge elder dragon  heading his own clan!

You’ll notice the overseer elite in the background, hopefully I’ll be doing one more overseer, he’s going to be a catcher, scout, no quite sure what I’ll name him, but his role will be that of a gatherer of the wounded oggam/human/alien to be made into fleshy burgers and snacks for the OAM Corp (Omni Amalgamated Meat Corp.) in the carnage Continuum fluff related stuff. (It’s always better with a bit of fluff…!!) That one will have an option for him to be holding an oggam or a human by the throat. As well as a bag full of tasty victims ready to be processed!!

Also up is a preview of another race connected with the Draxx, the loyal and ruthless Volpurgi. Here’s the first of them to give you an idea of what to expect.

draxx0010

draxx0009

draxx0008

These little fellers are the hunters, scouts and eyes and ears of the OAM Corp, the vicious alien food production corporation, who exploit loopholes in galactic laws for the trade of various snackfood of dodgy origins. The Volpurgi are human sized ranging from about 5 foot to 6 feet in extremes. The Volpurgi homeworlds were conquered by the Draxx centuries ago, and pledged loyalty in return for not being destroyed, plus they smell “doggy” to say the least, and taste awful, so they serve in great numbers with several Draxxion clans who were part of the alliance.

you’ll also notice that they have a look of a certain cartoon personality (which was entirely intentional) without being a carbon copy. what can I say, I watch too many cartoons! I find them in keeping with the grinning skull style, not being too realistic (lets face it, scifi is totally unrealsistic anyway!) Please don’t ask me to even try hard scifi, cos it won’t happen, there’s loads ofpeople out there who do that already, and they’re so much better at it than I, or ever hope to be. so just don’t go there!

Last up, the fierce Okvan oggam warbeast for the L.O.A. troops (League of Anthracks) THE CLUKKATRIX!!

draxx0005

This wee feller (We’ll ok, he’s big) The result of Okvan genetics on the humble groundbird. By using the Okvan secret formula X, it allows the okvans to rapidly create intelligent humanoid birds from the ones found on the homeworld. Such species as Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Turkeys, Dodos and so on can be turned into deadly Chukk warriors. Excessive amounts directly fed into the creatures result in intense mutations that combine all of Bird and saurian from ancient genes, switched back on.

The stable mutations are kept and trained as warbeasts and gladfatorial beasts, fighting for the pleasure of their masters. I’ve wanted to get this done for ages, and to be honest I wanted to expand the Okvan side of the LOA, since I feel that the LOA troops so far have less options than the empire troops. It’s not until you try and build armies with  the oggam that run in concordance with the background that I’ve written, do you see what combinations you can get. I want to support the entire oggam line totally if I can, so that players have maximum options for oggam Vs oggam stuff, and get totally different forces from each other. With the addition of the chukk for the LOA, I can imagine players might want to field armies of chukk eventually, so even they’d need some big back up. You have to think that in my Oggam sphere, the LOA are my chaos types, and chukk are beastmen. This ones just a really big one!

draxx0003

I’ll post a better size comparison later, but for scale with the rest, here’s he next to the Volpurgi:

draxx0007

Again bear in mind that the Volpurgi is human sized, Like I said, he’s a big monster and I think players of other scales and genres could make use of them too, it is basically a humanoid Cockatrice so it’d be cool for fantasy in 15mm and 28/32mm as well. I might do another variation on the same theme, a big riding beast that I’ve coined “Chukkasaurus Rex” that’s more chicken/T-rex. Thats one for the future though.

Well, that’s it for now, I’ll get some other stuff posted with a few WIPs I’m working on, and maybe you’ll get to see some of the Kize forces I have done.

Ciao
