Grinning Skull Miniatures: B.E.A.R.S. Greens sneak peek!

20 Oct

Here’s a quick sneak peek at some of the latest greens for Grinning Skull’s B.E.A.R.S in the range. Yes, you heard right, I’m adding teddy bears with guns to the mix. Why? Why not!?

For me, miniatures and gaming is supposed to be fun, and with so much serious stuff already out there I guess there needs to be more comic relief, so I decided to create these fun figures. Apparently, teddies are quite popular for collectors and such, so I thought I’d make some gaming versions that have a decidedly “Grinning Skull asthetic”

In a nutshell, The B.E.A.R.S (Bio Engineered Advanced Ranger Squad) are an artificial race of teddies, created by the great Toymaster entity for his endless amusement. Subsequently these bears went rogue and escaped from their maker to dispense justice and help throughout the Carnage Continuum to those in need. Outraged at this betrayal, the Cosmic Toymaster created their opposite (eX-T.E.D.) to hunt down and destroy his rogue children and cause chaos throughout the galaxy!

The first  eX-T.E.D. bunch are forthcoming, and will feature an array of evil versions on the theme (Led by Dr. Strangefluff and his cohorts) Hopefully if popular there will be additional bears on each side, influenced by popular tropes from all sorts of things (superhero, scifi, fantasy, cartoon and movies etc)

I’ll admit, I’ve been sidetracked lately, but I’m almost finished with this set, just got a couple more eX-T.E.D. figures to go, but I’ll show off them soon.

I’ll show more from the new bunch later, but safe to say, it’s not just teddies in the mix. Additions to the Zarglian Invaders and introducing the sentient mutant plants, the Klorzids.

As ever I welcome comments, thoughts and suggestions, let me know how you think.

Grinning Skull Miniatures release: The Zarglian Invaders!

29 Jul

Ok, so I’m a little late on the mark, since these were released last week, just been busy! Let me introduce you to the Zarglian invaders, the carnage continuum’s very own alien genocidal race, out to spread terror and domination throughout the outer fringes… These figures are cast in fine quality resin and would make a worthy addition to any slimy tentacled alien army, let me tell you a bit about them….

From the depths of space, the Zarglian invaders come with planetary dominion in mind. These tentacled marauders have arrived to dominate all other lesser lifeforms with their superior prowess and intellect, till all falls to the zarglian race. The Zarglian Stellar sovereignty spans countless worlds and systems, over centuries they have taken planet after planet and subdued many alien civilisations. Usually backwater worlds that offer little resistance to an invasion. Ruled by a ruthless royal line, much of their dominance can be seen as little more than a statement about how great and terrible they are (as can be seen by their huge heads!) It is the Zarglian way to assume that they are the highest form of life in the known galaxy, so humble is not a word they know how to use, and neither is subtle, favouring large displays of power just to show the enemy just how great they are and everything else is insignificant compared to their great empire.

Zarglians are identified by their two main striking features. First is their huge heads and massive pulsating fleshy brains. Often they choose to adorn themselves in elaborate head dress, to further extenuate just how big their brains can be. This is due to their custom of those who have the biggest brain, are usually more intelligent. Contrary to the fact, an average Zarglian is no more smarter than any other star faring race, they just imagine themselves to be. Even though the brain appears to be soft and squishy, it is quite tough and is not easily damaged as you’d think, this comes from millennia of evolution and adaptation , which without it, they would have died out a long time ago.

The other feature that distinguishes them from other creatures is the sea of writhing tentacles they possess as appendages. This makes them surprisingly fast and agile, able to do many things at once. It is unknown how many tentacles zarglians have exactly, experts would say that the number varies per being. With their like of racial superiority, it could be said that this might figure in a similar manner to the brain size. You’d imagine that due to their appearance they require a large amount of water to survive and that is why they seek new worlds to conquer. This is not the case, long have they evolved the ability to operate in many a locale and their tech aboard the saucer shaped crafts is more than adequate to provide them with all to survive. indeed their technology is advanced, lasers, sonic weapons, disintergrators and rayguns, as well as hyperspace capabilities and teleportation. They are ahead in terms of psionic ability, using mind bending telepathic devices to communicate to other races, probably just to taunt their foes and tell them of their impending conquest! So, prepare to serve your new intergalactic masters, and hail the great Zarglian Emperor and prepare for world wide invasion!

Available in single or squads of 5, in fact any number you’d like. Also keep a lookout for more zarglian forces coming soon (Every zarglian army needs a grand high prefect to lead them, don’t they?) A green preview also coming soon of the new wave (I’ll tell you more in the next few posts)

Incidentally, if your wondering why I haven’t been around to post these releases here, well I’ve been busy with life stuff, so haven’t had too much chance to update here (or anywhere for that matter) Soz guys, (note to self: must try harder!!)

Anyway, get over to our good friends at Alternative armies for the Zarglians, clukkatrix and all the other releases, past and present to grab some for your own games!!

Grinning Skull Miniatures: Behold the mighty Clukkatrix!

29 Jul

A belated Grinning Skull Miniatures release from Alternative Armies, I present to you the clukkatrix. A huge mutant chukk to intimidate your enemies! Imagine these bloodthirsty muties ravaging the field of war, or even in a dungeon crawl as a monster to test your adventurers?

These beasts are what nightmares are made, huge mutated chukk let loose on the enemy in a whirl of claws and feathers, a terrible sight to behold. When a chukk warrior has been “evolved” through either over stimulation, or artificially, it may become a Warp-chukk, or indeed a monstorous Clukkatrix. So wild and dangerous are they, that any mind control methods are no use any more, and these creatures are free to roam where ever they like, attacking anything in sight and devouring the victims. The mutation shift, harkens back to ancient DNA locked inside from aeons ago, so their appearance is that of a mixed avian and saurian variety, and produces a beast running on pure instinct.

Clukkatrix have several deadly forms of attack, a sharp razor like beak and claws, slash, peck and rend the enemy (and ally) to a bloody pulp, while their noxious belches and farts release clouds of deadly poisonous gas that are generated from the rapid mutations. Often this gas build up leads to them exploding when destroyed, causing even more gore and carnage. The Clukkatrix are by no means a stable mutation unlike the Chukkasaurus or other chukk mutant strains, so don’t tend to last long once changed. It still can happen that eventually they may calm down enough to revert back to a chukk, the chances are slim though, since the Clukkatrix’s rage escalates with momentum once it has changed.

Any force that counts chukk in its ranks are prone to this change, which can be a blessing, or a curse, that is of course depending upon the wind of fate, as an unlucky warlord may find himself and his best troops nearby to a chukk that has changed form, or be too close when it’s final cock-a-doodle-doo, becomes shock-a-doodle-boom!

You can get one of these lovely resin beast for your game from the fine fellows at Alternative armies, as well as all the rest of the other Grinning Skull range!

Grinning Skull Miniatures release: Oggum Oggra

13 May

Just a post to tell you we have another Alternative Armies release this week, the mighty Oggum Oggra GRN34 (otherwise known as a Pig Ogre). Ideal if you want some porky goodness to your miniature collection, or add to your Grinning Skull collection.

These supersized oggum add some leverage to Og forces of all types, and indeed for many other uses. Don’t believe me? Just read the fluff!!

An Oggra is the biggest and meanest strain of the Oggum. Strong and dangerous, ideally suited to battle or hard labour, but low on IQ, which is generally exploited by their smaller cousins.

On the homeworld, oggum scientists have learned to stimulate the Y chromosome in growing ogglets, using a chemical comound known as “treatment Y”, originating in the dark and secret labs of the Von Ok line in Okva. The Von Ok’s are allied to the League of Anthracks, and supply the Leagues troops with the main bulk of elite soldiers, chukk and warbeasts, who are direct results of their cruel and twisted experiments. Oggra created there are subjected to the usual mind control techniques and conditioning, before being shipped out to bolster League forces around the globe.
To combat these abominations, the Og Imperialists have used a refined version of the treatment on conscripted oggum adolescents (with varying results) so, it is not uncommon to find these creatures in the employ of the empire too.
Oggra can occur naturally, starting as any normal ogglet, only to swell to big proportions in a short time. These Oggra are rare, which is a good thing really, given the amount of precious resources they take up and consume each day, many settlements may struggle to support such a brute. Sometimes their births are seen as a curse, and are thrown out and left to fend for themselves. These Oggra can turn savage and prove to be problematic to local warlords if they reside near the warlords territory.
While they won’t win any medals for their intelligence, the make up for in battle and intimidation, and are a rare prize to any would be warlord for his retinue.

Keep a look out for more Grinning Skull releases soon, and if you want to get hold of an Oggra for yourself, get on over to our friends at Alternative Armies to order!

WYRMWOOD: Indiegogo update

17 Jan

WYRMWOOD: An Aussie Zombie Film | Indiegogo.

So, as I’m doing recaps on the various KS and Indiegogo campaigns we have been observing, I knew this one would be a success.

Wyrmwood is a post apoc zombie movie in the same vein as Mad Max and being Australian, it shares its fine pedigree.

With 32 days left (not 28 days…) they have reached a total of $31,155 as I write this, although I’m sure they will get more by the end. Not bad considering they were only looking for $20,000 to get the film done!

I  will look forward to seeing the finished flick in the near future.

Don’t sweat it, there’s still time to get involved if you want!

Peace out!
