So, back to the grind. With events of late, I’ve been having a hard time motivating myself to complete various jobs that I’m supposed to be doing, stuff like this tends to lack importance compared to when life deals out shitty hands. Still, time dredges on, stuff needs doing and thus, whether you like it or not, everyone should kick themselves up the ass from time to time, so thats what I’m in the process of doing!
Anyway, heres a bit of a WIP of one of the latest terrain bits I’m working on at the moment. Its a 15mm Industrial zone (as if you haven’t worked it out!)
I must say, even so my heart wasn’t in it at first, I admit that I really do like it quite a bit! It seems to be always the case with commission models, more so than stuff that I end up doing for myself. I really raided my bits boxes for suitable parts for this one, I wanted to cram as much as I could so it would scream of an industrailised landscape, which I think has been achieved.
Like I said, it’s a work in progress, so there’s lots of things left to do with it, loads of paint and ink washes to go, as well as a few techniques I’ve seen to give it some impression of use and age, plus no end of fun with the airbrush until I am happy with it!
These first shots were with just a spray balck basecoat, followed by a grey prime, and a sliver laquer, even so it does look cool enough with just that, it’s not how it will end. I require much more from the vision I had for it. It needs lots of wear, rust, smoke, grime and dirt. Plus, since this would be a working facility (to what end, and what kind of facility, I can’t say!) I want a few working lights on there too. As you can see, I’ve manufactured a movable dome/exhaust/thingumy with variable lights that flash, to simulate some kind of warning or machinery in use. I’ll be adding a spot light (or maybe two) to highlight the other parts of the complex, but the dome can be moved into various positions around the model to suit the ambience and particular needs as and when required.
I’ve added a rusty bronze/copper to the surfaces, these are going to be highlighted more with rust patches, smoke wear, and brown staining etc, before I even get around to any detailing of consoles and power boxes and anything else that needs doing. Yes, there is quite a bit left to do, but it’s coming on.
I’ll be popping up more WIP shots when the next few stages are done, I’m kinda hoping that this will keep me on target and motivated, and that I stay on track.

I’m really digging that! I’ve been collecting bits of plastic “junk” for years now with just such a project in mind. As a matter of fact, my next post has to do with some digital camera “guts” i’ve just acquired.

I have to say that this build has been a good buzz so far, its given me the chance to use up some bits that haven’t been utilised for a long time and I’ve been saving them for something just like this! all I can say is get your bits out and start putting something cool together!! I’m glad I’ve helped inspire you to do something similar!!
I get what your saying about life, its just one of my really good long time friends has passed away suddenly, so it hit me hard, and really took the wind out of my sails. I do have to try and still motivate myself, since a lot of the stuff I do these days is real paying work (like the industrial complex) so even so it was fun to do, I’m still working to deadlines, and I’m probably at least 2 weeks behind on my other jobs!!

The rust is just the first stage, I’ve still got loads to do to make it a bit more “used” looking! (plus Ive seen a few new techniques I’m dying to try out on it!)

Thanks! I was tempted to keep adding detail and bits, until I realised that if I kept filling all available space, I’d have no room left for signs, decals and spaces to place miniatures on the model when gaming!!

That is some seriously aweosme terrain. The detailing is,a s others said, amazing and the LED’s in that tower really make it even more awesome! The weathering effects are also spot on.

Great work! I’ve be collecting “junk” forever to scratch build things like that eventually. I have been a bit more into sculpting and 1/35 military modelling lately but damn, this is inspiring! Keep on rocking!

Thanks, I have a serious junk horde habit too, so bad that I own several really LARGE boxes stashed around my home filled with bits!
This model is now almost ready to go to it’s new home next week,(finished pics to follow) but I just wish that I’d have some time to use it in a few games! It’s usually the case with stuff I make for people, I end up wanting to keep them! Its a good job I have limited space here, or I’d be swimming in terrain!
